INSTALLATION PLANNING

Waterproofing membranes in the field.

This original STRIKING DEALS illustration identifies the product family and installation workflow without copying a manufacturer or third-party image.

It is a sourcing and coordination visual, not an installation drawing. Supports, connections, clearances and code requirements must be verified for the selected product and project.
MANUFACTURING

How the material is commonly made

Roofing and waterproofing sheets are produced by compounding asphalt or polymer, adding reinforcement or facers, and forming continuous rolls or sheets. Liquid coatings blend resins, fillers and additives. Flashing is roll-formed or fabricated from sheet material. Complete-system compatibility is essential.

MATERIAL

Composition and construction

Modified bitumen, thermoplastic, synthetic rubber, liquid polymer, metal or composite layers depending on the selected system.

CONFIGURATIONS

Common ways to specify it

  • Membrane or coating chemistry
  • Thickness, reinforcement and roll dimensions
  • Self-adhered, mechanically attached, heat-welded or liquid-applied
  • Primer, flashing and accessory system
APPLICATIONS

Typical construction uses

  • Low-slope and steep-slope roofing assemblies
  • Below-grade and plaza waterproofing
  • Flashing, transitions and penetrations
